Republicans running scared from their base...

This is from Huffington Post and it's great. Like I've said before, it must be nice to be a Republican. When Bush is the president you just do what he says. When Obama is president you just say, "no." How easy is that?

But then again, there is the Republican base, the whack jobs. This Obama birth certificate thing is priceless. Republican politicians actually have to do some work. They have to walk a thin line between placating their base and acting as if they're not as crazy as their base. Huffington Post goes and ruins it all for them. Watch representatives, including our own Kathy McMorris, literally run away from the reporter who asks them, "Do you think Obama is a US citizen?" It is a hoot.

I would imagine every night Obama gets on his knees and thanks God (or for you Republicans, Allah) for the retards that are the Republican Party. I almost feel sorry for these Republican congressmen -- almost.

The article from Huffington Post:

Thanks to FireDogLake and Campaign Silo for giving me the opportunity to do this work!

Check out this video: several Republican Congressman tell me they don't believe Barack Obama is an American. Several dodge the question. Others offer weak-tea justifications for kinda-sorta believing Obama is a natural born citizen, Constitutionally fit to hold the office of President of the United States of America. Only one, Trent Franks of Arizona, gives a correct and clear answer, but even he can't help himself from suggesting that Obama is facilitating Jihad and turning America into a socialist state.

Folks, this is what it has come to. The most powerful people in the world -- nationally elected legislators responsible for setting policy for the most powerful country on earth -- are lining up with cuckoo-bat-shit-crazy elements of the lunatic fringe.

And they have to. It's their base.

So... with the Republican Party completely untracked from the rails of sanity...

Have we finally found our answer as to why George Bush got elected twice?

Why we went to war against a nation that hadn't wronged us?

Is it any wonder we can't get sane environmental policies passed?

Is it any wonder we can't get the fundamental rudiments of civil society like health care for all, childhood nutrition and effective anti-poverty measures through Congress?

All of a sudden, bailing out billionaire bankers while dithering on health care reform starts to make sense, doesn't it?

Republicans meet your base!

Oh by the way, they're crazy. Good luck on all your future elections.

If there was ever a video made to show sane people why they need to vote, this is it. It concerns the "birth certificate" issue of President Obama. The best part is some footage showing the usual crazy/conservative elderly woman hijacking a town hall meeting with her Republican representative. At one point she makes everybody stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. They all do it! Priceless.

I feel kind of bad for this representative. Just think of how much nonsensical pandering he has to do to keep his constituents happy.

As expected the birth certificate is shown, as well as the newspaper clipping announcing Obama's birth.

Healthcare Reform and our future...

I hope that Obama takes an all-or-nothing approach in his efforts to reform the biggest drag on our economy, the number-one reason for bankruptcy and the premier reason why we are now ranked 37th in the world for our healthcare system.

Personally, I would like to see the single-payer option be the one that triumphs. We will eventually be there, if we survive as a nation. But, I would be willing to accept the “public option.” If you haven’t heard about this one, it basically sounds like this: You can take your pick of any private healthcare insurance, or you can opt to purchase government-run insurance. This would run about 30% cheaper than the private companies. The insurance companies say they can’t compete against this option because government would be able to provide the same coverage without the profits and overhead that insurance companies have to include. The insurance companies say this would be unfair. GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE!

I think this public option would be a good first step to get where we need to go. Where we need to go is to completely take the profit out of healthcare. You see, thanks to President Bush, insurance companies have shown us what they would do if they were free to call the shots without oversight or regulation. What they did was maximize profits via overcharging, denial of service and price fixing. Thank you President Bush.

Many people say our economy is so bad right now that we can’t afford to fix this problem. On the contrary, that is exactly why it’s the best time to fix it. In the wake of World War Two, when Great Britain’s economy was pretty much absent, is when the British decided to fix their healthcare system. An efficient healthcare system that ensured the healthcare of its citizens was the bedrock upon which they resurrected their economy. We need to do the same thing.

So, President Obama, here’s the deal. You should only approve legislation that will fix the problem, not something that will only make it a little less worse until the next election cycle. Let them vote down the solution that every other industrialized nation has embraced. Then let them own it.

More people will go bankrupt. More jobs will be lost. More people will die. Yet, more profits will be reported by the insurance companies. Even those who are so easily swayed by the cries of “socialized medicine” will finally get it. They will finally understand why we need campaign finance reform and “socialized medicine.” They will look at the legislators who caved under insurance company money. Archival YouTube videos will play nonstop of them trumpeting the industry-provided talking points. How do you think reelection will look for these folks? I ask you to consider the Iraq War votes and how history has judged those who did the unpopular thing and, using their intellect, voted against President Bush’s desires.

If you let them water this thing down, it will fail. When it fails to make a dent in their lives, the economy still sputters and the deficit escalates, who do you think the American people are going to blame? It won’t be the insurance industry whose continual advertisements tell us what good people they are. They might even hold back their annual policy increases to a measly 10 to 20 percent per year (hopefully, their investors understand) to sweeten the pot. The slackjaws will blame you and every other Democrat, regardless of how they voted. That’s the way the GOP spin machine works. You should know that by now.

Our healthcare system doesn’t need to be fine tuned. It needs to be discarded and replaced. Eventually it will. How much time and money will be wasted until that happens? How many jobs and lives will be lost?
